GPU MINING ILLEGAL? (experiencing some weird behavior in multiple PC repair shops)

$

Hi, :|

I went to three local PC repair shops, and they all acted weird when they saw my RX 470 (Mining Edition)! They completely refused to help, because it it is Bitcoin mining card and they don't repair such a hardware. But all I wanted was to test if any different PC recognizes GPU as device. Simple and easy don't see much difference from regular RX 470. They acted like I am doing something that is not allowed...
Are GPU mining illegal? Why they refused to help?

So here is the full story of my RX470 problem: https://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/17511/weird-problem-rx-470-help#latest

I think I damaged my gpu while trying out various custom memory timings
Now its much worse in overclocking and instanly start to glitch if i try to reach the same speeds with it as I can do Stable before.
before : 31.4 mh/s was stable
Now : 30.5 mh/s is kinda stable

What do now? Did I really damaged it?

Quick guide to flash your RX470/RX480 cards

This is just a quick guide for how to flash you RX470/RX480 cards. I hope it helps.

Download these.
https://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2728/atiflash-2-74
https://github.com/caa82437/PolarisBiosEditor
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

If you want a custom rom (Higher hash, lower power), you can contact Heliox
For example: RX 480 8G Samsung: 32+Mh ETH, RX 470 4G Hynix: 31+Mh ETH

Use GPU-Z to see what kind of memory your card has

1, open atiflash, MUST RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR
2, click on save to save the original bios, save it as RX470ogBIOS.ROM or RX480ogBIOS.ROM (for convenience)
3, open polaris bios editor
4, click open at the top left and open the OG bios you just saved
5, edit the timings according to your cards memory
6, click save, save it as RX470modBIOS.ROM or RX480modBIOS.ROM
7, open atiflash again, MUST RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR
8, at the top select the card you want to flash
9, click load image at the bottom left
10, search for the modded bios you just saved and open it
11, click program
12...wait a minute to finish, when its done it'll say to restart...if you're done click yes, if you have more cards to flash click no and repeat steps 8-12 until you're done.

Also, when selecting cards to flash, it will only show 3 cards, so if you want to flash more than 3 cards, only have 3 cards connected to the motherboard at a time, flash the cards, restart, make sure it worked, shutdown, switch cards and repeat. And then make sure you have the right driver installed.

This is what works for me. I hope it works for you too.

Hello guys,

I tried to bios mod my Asus STRIX RX 570 4GB GPU so I copied and pasted the 2:1500 string to the ones above (until 2:2000) but this didn't change its Mh/s (stuck at 22 Mh/s).

So, could anybody hook me up with a good RX 570 Bios mod?
Thanks

Hello,
i have a gigabyte z77x-ud5h with i7 3770k and 6 RX 580 cards connected.
When i try to start my integrated graphics card i get post code 95 error on the bios : 95 | Check PCI device requested resources
I tried stopping the sound card and one of the lan cards as those require PCI lines and I also set the PCI to gen 1 but still got the error. Anyone with an idea ? :)

nvrm xid 61 error?

I have 30+ RX cards... and have been mining quite successfully.
I'm using simpleminer OS without issues.

However, I just bought a few GTX 1070's (zotac mini's) and I am having some weird errors.
Exact error:
NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:0e:00) :61. id5e(956c) 85024f2d ffcd3250

After error, rig immediately reboots. I don't even see a new hashrate to see if it's a specific card. I had to catch the error by pointing a video camera at it.

Current LINUX (SMOS) OC Settings:
Base core clock + 50.
Base mem clock + 1450
Power set to 115w

Has anyone else seen this NVRM error? I can't find anything in a google.
Hoping maybe someone can shed some light on it.

Thank you.

Need help with understanding why 6 of the exact same card (Asus Radeon Strix RX580 8129M Samsung K4G80325FB, 115-D000PIL-100) all run at different hashrates. And how to get them all to 30mh.
All 6 stock were getting 26mh.
I flashed all 6 cards exactly the same using atiflash v2.77 and polaris bios editor.
2 (3, 6) cards sit on 30mh. Card 4 starts on 30 after reboot but then after 1mins drop back to 26-28mh and stay on that.
2 dropped back to 16mh with flashed. So i have flashed back to stock. Cards 1,2,5 sit on 26 and dont move.

(Cards 1 and 4 are stock bios)

Therefore I currently have 2 that are only getting 30mh and 3 that are on 26mh, and 1 that gets between 26-29.
Running 1250mhz core clock
and 2200mhz memory clock

1350mhz core clock

1150mhz core clock

Im currently using Hiveos on a usb.

Im obviously wanting to get 30mh on all 6 cards. But im not sure why 6 identical cards are not performing the same.
Thanks in advance for any assistance!!!

Mining rig help!!

So I built a multi gpu mining rig using older gaming cards bought used. I have 2 r9 290xs, a r9 290 and an r9 390. Running on an msi z170a with an i5 6500t , 8gb ram, with a 750 and 1200w psu. Had slight stability issue but had it running nice. Rebooting ever other day for the last week. So one morning I wake up and see that windows had frozen. Did a reboot and my 290 had an opencl error couldn’t write dag for buffer. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything, switching risers, virtual memory is fine. Even by itself when the card tries to mine I get that error or the system crashes and I check event log and it says there was a bug check and memory dump but I have no idea how to check the memory dump. The card shows up in device manager, afterburner, gpu-z and claymore. It is running and fine until under load. Shouldn’t be a psu issue as it was running fine for weeks. Have tried lidag gser and eres commands with no luck. Best I got was after freshly installing it was mining for maybe one minute with all four cards before crashing and getting same error or crash. Getting another 290x and brand new 1080ti tomorrow to add so will do more tests. Any ideas? I know there’s a good chance the card is bad but it’s running fine until under load?

System runs fine with all four cards in but only the other 3 mining. Stable for 12+ hrs

I have the registry tweaks and a few other windows ten tips but any advice on stability is welcome too.

Saludos!!!

Noob help: can't get 29-30mhs out of rx580s

My mining rig has 12 ASUS Dual Radeon RX580s 8GB and running ethOS. Stock, they get about 23mhs. I used Polaris and ATIflash to copy the 1750 timing to the 2000 timing. They get a little over 27mhs after that, stable. That's in Windows with Claymore miner. However, when I put them in my rig, ethOS shows them getting just shy of 26mhs, about 25.9mhs. More than that, my pool stats should be saying I'm getting about 300mhs (25mhs * 12) but it's reporting about 240mhs for some reason. Furthermore, I can't seem to be able to get the 29-30mhs everyone else seems to be getting out of this card. I used Trixx on one test card in Windows and I changed only the memory clock to 2150 and I get 29mhs but it is only stable for a minute or two. That's the best I've gotten it. I might be able to get 28. Any pointers on getting it to 29-30 and stable? Should I mine in Windows or something else since ethOS seems to be performing so poorly?

Phoenix Miner better than claymore

So today I tried Phoenix miner and I found it to be better than Claymore. Getting a little more mh/s, lower fees, no incorrect shares (so far) and seems like it runs smoother. And it's easy to edit the config file.

I recommend trying it

Quick Start Guide To Mine Ethereum

$

PLEASE READ THIS, OR USE THE SEARCH BAR. We'd like to keep this forum clean of repeat questions. Thanks!

I've made this quick guide to help people new to mining, and I'll add to it if I missed anything. I hope this helps.

Hardware requirements to start mining.

GPU: It's up to you to choose what graphics card you want to mine with. Do your homework. How much is it. How much power does it need. How fast is it in terms of its hash rate. The GPU must have at least 2GB of memory, AMD cards are best to use and AMD GPU driver 15.12. This Mining Hardware Comparison list is very helpful. http://62.212.74.86/~mining/list/
If you want a custom rom (Higher hash, lower power), you can contact Heliox
For example: RX 480 8G Samsung: 32+Mh ETH, RX 470 4G Hynix: 31+Mh ETH

Motherboard: You'll need a motherboard that has enough PCIe x16 and PCIe x1 slots to support the ammout of graphics cards you plan on using in your rig. The Asrock H81 Pro BTC and Asrock H97 Anniversary, are both good boards to use, they are relatively cheap and they can support 6 graphics cards with 1 PCIe x16 slot and 5 PCIe x1 slot. And you will need to buy a power button, obviously to turn on your rig.

Riser Cables: To use the PCIe x1 slots on your motherboard, will need to buy PCIe x1 to x16 riser card extender cables, it can also be used on the PCIe x16 slot. It's also great to give your cards some space from each other. I would recommend buying 1 or 2 extra ones, because sometimes you'll get one that doesn't work.

CPU: You'll want to buy a CPU that fits your motherboard. If you go with the Asrock H81 Pro BTC or Asrock H97 Anniversary, the Intel Celeron G1820 or G1840 works just fine for it.

Power Supply: You'll need to calculate how much power you need. For example, I have a 6 card AMD R7 370 rig, each card uses 110watts of power for a total of 660watts, and the rest of the rig uses about 200watts. So knowing this rig will need 860watts of power, I went with a good 1000watt power supply that came will all the necessary cables.

Hard Drive: A 60GB hard drive is all you need, and you can find a small solid state drive now for a good price.

RAM: A minimum of 4GB of RAM.

You'll also need to buy a keyboard, mouse, monitor, and its best to use an Ethernet connection not WIFI. You may temporarily need an optical drive, to install your drivers and Operating System. If you can do all that with a flash drive, that's great too.

Mining

In this link from Nanopool.org, http://eth.nanopool.org/help, you'll find 3 mining clients you can easily download and configure to start mining. Claymore Dual Miner, Genoil Miner, and EthMiner.

For example. I use Ethminer and I point it to nanopool, so I edited the start.bat file so it looks like this:
setx GPU_FORCE_64BIT_PTR 0
setx GPU_MAX_HEAP_SIZE 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_SINGLE_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
ethminer -M -G -F http://eth-us-east1.nanopool.org:8888/YOUR_WALLET/YOUR_WORKER_NAME

Then all you have to do is just run the bat file and you're mining away.

You should know where your DAG file is, because if you don't keep an eye on it, your hard drive may quickly fill up. You only need the 2 most recent DAG files so it's OK to delete any older ones, but sometimes you'll have to delete all of them. For me, I just had to search for the folder "Ethash" and put a shortcut of it on the desktop.

Also some helpful tips.

Set your rig to turn on when power is connected, AND set your miner to run on startup. Just google run on startup. It's a must and you'll love it when your power goes out and you're not home. When your power comes back on, your rig will turn on and start mining again.

Use a remote desktop. I use Google Chrome Remote Desktop, and I set it up on all my rigs. From my phone or another computer, I can control any of my rigs and keep an eye on them.
