Undervolting Through Hex Editor- SimpleMining

$

Due to recent events I have decided to forego bashing my head against the wall with windows 10- My alternative being the Linux based SimpleMining OS.

So far I am a huge fan of it. One (huge) weakpoint is that undervolting just doesn't work on it for reasons that I at one time had read but have now forgotten. Because of this, I am forced to deactivate one of my GPUs or exceed my 1200W PSUs capacity.

I have searched around for the past few days now and have found a few posts/tutorials on editing the BIOS in a hex editor that touched on the subject, some more than others, but none were comprehensive enough to strictly cover undervolting.

I've gotten as far as finding the 'VoltageObjectInfo' section of my bios and adding the voltage offset register(8D 00)using ATOM Bios reader and HxD/HexWorkshop, but past that I am stuck as far as what to do as far as adding something to bring my voltages down to the 900 mV for the core and clock that worked for me through Wattool when I was on windows.

Can anyone give me a hand?

i'm having some problems with my Mining rig. my computer can only find 4 out of the 7 cards i have plugged in.
i've serched google a bit but the most given answer is to enable 4G encoding in the bios, which i have done, unfortunately it did nothing.

i've tested all risers, the power and the GPUS, they are all working...

Undervolting AMD RX cards on Linux

$

I'm trying to undervolt different models of AMD RX GPUs on Ubuntu.
I did a lot of research and, as far I know, my two only options are:

- Using ohgodatool to change vddc index

For example ohgodatool -i 0 --core-state 7 --core-vddc-idx 6, but I don't really understand this.
I'm testing on a RX 470 Mining Edition and on state 6 I have -26. -26 what? 26mV less than the base value? -26%? And what's the base value?
Also, if I understand correctly, I can't choose an arbitrary number of mV.

- Editing the VBIOS

This gives me more control but it's a nightmare.
A few questions: When editing the VoltageObjectInfo portion of the bios, how do I choose the value in mV?
I watched a video that explains this, and they say that the hex value should increase by one for every 6.25mV increase, but again, what's the base value? 0?

A couple more questions:
How does ethOS do this? How can it apply an arbitrary number of mV?
Is there a way to know the current value in mV that the card is using? I didn't find any tools to do this.
Do I have any other option?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Riser setup (Safety questions)

Hello fellow miners. I come to you in need of aid. I have some questions if my riser set up is correct and if it can handle the load safely. So let's get to it.

This is what I want to do (I believe this to be safe):

So here are my questions:

1. Is it safe for me to split 1x8pin pcie into 2x8pin pcie. And power 2xRX580 with it.
2. Am I safe splitting 1 molex into 2. And than powering 2 risers with them?
3. On the picture you can see I have a chain of 3 molex connectors (not my actual cable, the one I'll use will be a high quality PSU molex cable). How many GPU risers can I safely connect to it? Could I do 3x Y molex splitter (male to female) and power 6 GPU risers with it?
4. How much is the max and avg load on a riser? How much can a riser handle?
5. How much is the max and avg load on a molex cable? How much can a molex handle? (I've seen people say somewhere 135W, but I'm not 100% on this)

My PSU is 3x EVGA SuperNOVA 1200 P2, 80+ PLATINUM 1200W.
I also have 4x LC-Power LC6650GP4 V2.4 (650W) and 1x LC-Power LC1000 (1000W) to help me power all of my GPUs.
I'm using 2x Asus B250 mining expert motherboard.
I need to power 7x Nvidia 1070 GPUs and 14x RX 580 GPUs.

I'm asking how you would power my GPUs. If you had the above PSUs with the GPUs and motherboard I mention.

If you have further question and/or are confused about any part of my explanation please do ask !

Quick Question on Cards reporting 0 Hash

I have had two rigs trucking along with Ethereum and all of a sudden one of the cards in one rig powers-up, shows in the device manager, but shows 0 Hash. A few weeks later another card on the other rig has done the same. Any ideas what it could be? Figured I would ask here before purchasing new risers and stuff to start swiping out equipment.

Thanks for any ideas to save time/money!

When do cards wear out?

Elephant in the room time, GPUs ain't made for mining. Running them 24/7 was never the plan.

Surely there is a line in the sand where they start to become less consistent?

Context; my first rig has been running for almost 10 months solid with downtime that can be counted in the minutes.

Hashrate average is stable, but most of if not all the cards drop randomly every few shares.

Say 30mh to 20mh, to 30mh to 12m etc

Can we/am I, running my cards into dust?

Note: Heat has been on average 20-30 degrees below max operating.

There is a serious lack of rig porn on this forum! I just spent a few hours getting one of my stubborn R9 290 cards up and running. Ended up having to make a custom BIOS for it to get it to stop crashing the drivers or whole computer, but at least this rig is back to 5 cards! Will move it back to the mining building tomorrow if it stays stable.

5x Sapphire R9 290 Reference Cards
ASRock H81 Pro BTC Motherboard
USB risers
2x PSU (Antec 1300W Plat and Corsair HX850 Gold)
Some 2x1s, cheap metal racks, glue and screws
138MH/s total
Total cost... I don't remember, they've paid themselves off several times tho!

Let's see your rig! Nothing too shameful to post - those 6 card rigs haphazardly arranged on your desk are just as good =p.

When mining ETH will end?

Good evening, i saw some forecasts that shows ETH mining will end soon, as I plan to invest some money i'm concerned with.
Maybe some old miners could help me understand what ill happen, i know you guys don't are Nostradamus, I just want to know your opinion if you could...
In another subject, wich country in europe is the best one to start a mining entrepirse, with 10 rigs (8 GPU'S), analyzing the cost of energy, taxes, favorable environment for mining and costs to maintain the company ... Thank you very much for the answers, I hope to be able to help if you have doubts too!
Cheers!

As the card for mining now is so expensive, maybe you all need to find a mining rig with higher price ratio.
I must recommend the mining rig from our factory.
The configuration is:

8 * AMD rx570 cards, 4G
hashrate of the rig is 235mh/s

The price is only $4000!!!!

Phantom coins generated while solo mining/Entire blockchain keeps redownloading

$

I first want to state I understand many feel solo mining is not profitable, so I didnt want this post to devolve into a discussion that I shouldnt even be doing it, I still want to figure out how to solve this particular problem. I am trying to figure out/understand why phantom coins are being generated which then cause the entire blockchain to re-download from the start which then remove the coins from the wallet, rinse repeat. I am using Ethereum Wallet v0.9.3, geth v1.8.2, and ethminer v0.14.0.dev4, with these launch settings

Ethereum Wallet.exe --node-datadir=h:\EthereumData

geth.exe --rpc --rpcaddr "localhost" --rpcport 8545 --cache 4096 --datadir H:/EthereumData

ethminer.exe -G

After the entire blockchain downloads i can start mining, phantom coins will appear in the wallet and then start redownloading the entire blockchain again from scratch then it resets the coin balance to 0. I have tried deleting everything and retesting including all files in the appdata folders but it still has the same behavior. Any idea why this is happening? I also want to add that before retrying by having the data on a different drive at H:/EthereumData I also tried with the default location in the C:/ user appdata folder but had the same result. Thanks in advance for any solutions!

Mining using ASUS B250 Mining Expert. 4 RX 580 gpu-s vents stop working

Hello.
I purchased recently ASUS B250 Mining Expert motherboard.
I installed on this board Intel Celeron G3930
4GB Crucial DDR4 -2400 UDIMM 1.2v CL17 memory
I have 2x XFX Radeon RX 58 Graphics Cards and 2x Nitro + Radeon RX 580 Graphics Cards
I use 1 terabyte WD HDD (On this HDD Windows 10 is installed)
When I start up Windows cards will start and all vents on all cards also work but when windows login occurs all graphics card vents stop working.
This did not happen before when I had those cards installed on 2 separate PC-s.
Vents never stopped.
Also currently if I log in to windows MSI After Burner all options are grayed out.
AMD drivers are up to date
In AMD Radeon Settings >> "Gaming" >> "Global Settings" >> "Global WattMan" there is option to set vents on manual or automatic and in both scenario's Vents wont start

Hello,

I have:
Asrock H110 Pro BTC+ motherboard
Using 4 gigs ram (also increased virtual memory)
CPU is: Intel Celeron G3930 (LGA1151)
Using those risers
http://www.gmb.nl/item.aspx?id=9814

Using Claymore's Dual Ethereum miner
Cards i have are:
Sapphire Nitro + Radeon RX580 / 4GB (I have 2 of those)
and
XFX Radeon RX 580 / 8 GB (I have 2 of those)
When 1 card was connected to PC the miner was mining over 30,500 mh/s
and now when i connected all cards i am getting about 29,500 mh/s
What causes this and how can i increase it.
I am using MSI After Burner latest beta version ( 4.4.3 Beta 3 ) because 4.4.2 all settings were disabled for me

RX 580 Hashrate

Has anyone had a chance to test out the RX 580's yet, either 4GB or 8GB? If so, what hash-rate are you getting? I'm debating getting the 580's because where I live, they are cheaper than the Sapphire Nitro RX 480's.

Thanks

Re-installing my windows mining rig.

Hi. I started mining using Windows on SSD (1st rig). I have 2nd rig on Ethos mining to the same address, using ethermine pool.

I want to reinstall the Windows rig. I already have a copy of my keystore. I know my address. I remember my password. Is there anything I should backup before I reformat my SSD on the 1st rig? Heard so many horror stories that cannot access their balance, etc. Just want to double check.

RX 580: Get LOTS of incorrect shares but no memory errors

I have a problem with the 5th rig i build.

It is running 6x Gigabyte RX580 8 GB cards, they have one-step-modded bioses, i tuned each card individually with OverdriveNTool and have Hwinfo64 running and showing no (or VERY little) memory errors. It's running Claymore (10.3 at first, 11.0 now) and except for the GPUs it's an identical setup as the first 4 rigs (the first rigs have XFX cards).

Eventhough i get no memory errors, 3 gpus keep getting a mayor amount of invalid shares. It are the same gpus all the time (gpu0, 3 and 5). I changed risers and the problem remains. It seems like the longer the rig runs, the more invalid shares it gets.

How can it be that i keep on receiving invalid shares while the gpus have no memory errors? What am i missing?
