Hi,
My rig goes like this.
MSI Z270 A-PRO
4 GTX ZOTAC 1070 Ti AMP EXTREME
2 ZOTAC 1070 TI MINI

My pcis slots r maxed out now. I am planning to add another GPU using the M.2 Slot. Bt i don't know whether this motherboard supports if i add a card to the M.2 slot. I tried googling to see if people have tested this. Bt can't find any.

I would like to know if the M.2 slot GPU will work. If yes i will go ahead with the purchase of the GPU.

PLEASE HELP.

THANK YOU.

I think I damaged my gpu while trying out various custom memory timings
Now its much worse in overclocking and instanly start to glitch if i try to reach the same speeds with it as I can do Stable before.
before : 31.4 mh/s was stable
Now : 30.5 mh/s is kinda stable

What do now? Did I really damaged it?

GPU working even if not sufficiently connected?

Hey guys,

I bought a Radeon RX580 and tried it out with my HP workstation. Got about 26.5 MH/s and the fans are spinning like hell and are very loud.
Now I bought an AsRock H110 BTC+ motherboard and connected my card to it. I believe I connected everything correctly including power supply which delivers up to 600W. (more than enough for one card)

Everything works fine, I get the same hash rate, every led is illuminated as it should and the fans are spinning. However, they are not very loud and the card gets quite hot very fast. So my question is, can the card even work that way if it does not get enough power? I am suspecting that the fans are not operating at full power as they should be. Or maybe I have just mistaken the workstations CPU heatsink fans with the GPU fans, they are very close together. Am I just paranoid? Or could it be a software setting problem that prevent the fans from working at full power?

Thanks for your help,
Matthi

i'm having some problems with my Mining rig. my computer can only find 4 out of the 7 cards i have plugged in.
i've serched google a bit but the most given answer is to enable 4G encoding in the bios, which i have done, unfortunately it did nothing.

i've tested all risers, the power and the GPUS, they are all working...

Hi everyone,

Has anyone spent any time on the new AMD drivers with MS Windows ?

I see the latest driver is 18.3.1 and I was wondering if there has been any benefit since 17.11.4

When do cards wear out?

Elephant in the room time, GPUs ain't made for mining. Running them 24/7 was never the plan.

Surely there is a line in the sand where they start to become less consistent?

Context; my first rig has been running for almost 10 months solid with downtime that can be counted in the minutes.

Hashrate average is stable, but most of if not all the cards drop randomly every few shares.

Say 30mh to 20mh, to 30mh to 12m etc

Can we/am I, running my cards into dust?

Note: Heat has been on average 20-30 degrees below max operating.

Need 10 watts per each MHs produced

Do you agree (check on your riggers setup) that, for each MHs your riggers is producing, you need power in the range 8 to 10 watts ?

Examples:

6x AMD RX580 = 180 MHs will require 1500 to 1800w PSU
6x Nvidia1060 = 140 MHs will require 1100 to 1400w PSU

(Considering 80% as limit to protect long life your PSU)

ASUS 250 Mining Expert Motherboard issues

I purchased the above to replace a Gigabyte z170-ud5 th which had fussy pcie slots thinking it would simplify things, how wrong I was. The board has some nice ideas but it feels like betaware bios software rushed out before being ready to compete with Biostar/Asrock

Issue 1 - memory slots cheap looking and very tight fitting
Issue 2 - Will only boot with one slot populated with 8GB Corsair 3200MHz, filling both slots and it won't even attempt to boot, thought it was dead, removing second stick of RAM resolves issue, worked fine in old mobo
Issue 3 - Turning Mining Bios off or setting RAM memory settings manually causes POST to repetidly to fail, only way to POST is to set optimize defaults which also re-enables mining mode
Issue 4 - refuses to recognise more than 1 GPU on usb 3 risers (VOO7s)
Issue 5 - Manual very basic, even online is poor, the embedded QR codes in manual reference wrong motherboard sub-manuals
Issue 6 - No onboard error codes displayed, you need old world speaker beep codes, took me a day without pluging pcie mobo tester to find out it didn't like my RAM

Good points

1- supports 19 slots
2- usefull pre-diagnostic display of pcie slots in bios splash screen when booting, wont tell you what error is if any though
3 - can support 3 psu coonections if they work?- I have evo 1300w and 650w which appear to be working (fan spinning, card lighting up)
4 - could be 15% faster with single card when used with this mobo as opposed to old z170 board, could be chance?

So beta AMD drivers and what feels like beta bios software on motherboard = not good combination.

May have to send it back which is a shame since I wanted so much to like it.

Rig shutting down after few hours, worked great for months

I have a 13 GPU rig that has worked good for months now in my home office. Rig Specs:

7 x 1070 TI EVGA SC mining ZEC. CHIP OC 200 MHZ, MEMORY OC 700 MHZ
6 x RX580 SAPPHIRE NITRO+ 8GB mining ETH. BIOS mod.
2 x 1000W EVGA Gold rated PSU
2 x 750W EVGA Gold rated PSU
Asus Mining Expert MB w/ 512 SSD and 8 GB DDR4
Windows 10

I have two APC UPS backups connected to this rig. Each UPS is rated up to 865W. I have the PSUs paired in two groups with a 1000W + 750W powering the Nvidia cards and a 1000W + 750W powering the AMD cards. The Nvidia cards and system is using about 865 watts and the AMD cards are also using about 865 watts.

Earlier today I noticed the LED of the UPS powering the Nvidia cards come on and a timer below showing how many minutes were left indicating power loss. The minutes kept increasing and I realized the cards were not drawing as much power. I could not RDP into the rig and Claymore Manager confirmed that the AMD cards were also offline. The fans of the AMD cards were still spinning but the fans of the Nvidia cards stopped spinning. All case fans and CPU fans were spinning. After about a minute the rig shutdown on its own.

I turned the rig back on and it was able to mine again for about 2 hours before the same process repeated. I turned it on again and this time reduced the CHIP OC of the Nvidia cards to 150 MHZ and the memory down to 650 MHZ. However as mentioned above the rig was working fine for months with the higher overclocks. Reducing the values did not impact performance much with the ZEC miner so I might do this with my other rigs to reduce stress on the cards.

Another thing I did this time was disable ECO mode on all the power supplies (stabbing in the dark, not sure if that is the culprit). There is an ECO switch on each PSU. If it is set to on the PSU fan will not come on until the temperature of the PSU has reached I believe 55 C.

So far the system has been running fine for about 1/2 hour since these changes but only time will tell.

Anyone have an idea why the rig is displaying this behavior? I looked at System Events but really could not figure out what the reason was for the crash and eventual shutdown since a monitor is not hoked up to the system. Temperatures appear to be fine in the room and the cards are not running hot.

Quick Question on Cards reporting 0 Hash

I have had two rigs trucking along with Ethereum and all of a sudden one of the cards in one rig powers-up, shows in the device manager, but shows 0 Hash. A few weeks later another card on the other rig has done the same. Any ideas what it could be? Figured I would ask here before purchasing new risers and stuff to start swiping out equipment.

Thanks for any ideas to save time/money!

Mining using ASUS B250 Mining Expert. 4 RX 580 gpu-s vents stop working

Hello.
I purchased recently ASUS B250 Mining Expert motherboard.
I installed on this board Intel Celeron G3930
4GB Crucial DDR4 -2400 UDIMM 1.2v CL17 memory
I have 2x XFX Radeon RX 58 Graphics Cards and 2x Nitro + Radeon RX 580 Graphics Cards
I use 1 terabyte WD HDD (On this HDD Windows 10 is installed)
When I start up Windows cards will start and all vents on all cards also work but when windows login occurs all graphics card vents stop working.
This did not happen before when I had those cards installed on 2 separate PC-s.
Vents never stopped.
Also currently if I log in to windows MSI After Burner all options are grayed out.
AMD drivers are up to date
In AMD Radeon Settings >> "Gaming" >> "Global Settings" >> "Global WattMan" there is option to set vents on manual or automatic and in both scenario's Vents wont start

Undervolting Through Hex Editor- SimpleMining

$

Due to recent events I have decided to forego bashing my head against the wall with windows 10- My alternative being the Linux based SimpleMining OS.

So far I am a huge fan of it. One (huge) weakpoint is that undervolting just doesn't work on it for reasons that I at one time had read but have now forgotten. Because of this, I am forced to deactivate one of my GPUs or exceed my 1200W PSUs capacity.

I have searched around for the past few days now and have found a few posts/tutorials on editing the BIOS in a hex editor that touched on the subject, some more than others, but none were comprehensive enough to strictly cover undervolting.

I've gotten as far as finding the 'VoltageObjectInfo' section of my bios and adding the voltage offset register(8D 00)using ATOM Bios reader and HxD/HexWorkshop, but past that I am stuck as far as what to do as far as adding something to bring my voltages down to the 900 mV for the core and clock that worked for me through Wattool when I was on windows.

Can anyone give me a hand?

Bricked your RX 480 due to bad flash?

Hey y'all,

In my latest bios flash endeavor, I managed to brick all my Sapphire RX 480 8b Ref cards at the same time. Note to self: Never flash all your cards at once.
What do I mean by brick? After rebooting, my cards would start, but I would have a black screen. No Post screen, nada. I tried my monitor on each card, tried only having one plugged in, etc, without avail.
I managed to find a short description on how to recover your card using 1+8 method, so I wanted to share it with you. (Props to Mikhan, http://www.overclock.net/t/593427/how-to-unbrick-your-bricked-graphics-card-fix-a-failed-bios-flash/230#post_25463481). I am no expert, but am outlining the steps I took. I take no responsibilites!

Note: You need either a graphcis card or a integrated graphics card (I used an old graphics card).

1. Unplug all your dead cards, plug in the working card (I used USB riser, seating it could work but with the paperclip it's going to be hard).
2. Boot your PC, press F11 to access BIOS settings (for me). You need enable that you primarily boot from your IGPU (or videocard). It should be somewhere under Advanced Settings > GPU cards or similar.
3. Turn off your PC. I now connected my monitor cable into the VGA input on my motherboard (so it was not directly plugged into the GPU card)
4. Turn your PC on to ensure that you can boot. If OK, turn off.
5. Unplug your working card, and connect one of your dead cards (Power+riser). Keep the monitor cable connected to the motherboard.
6. Use the 1+8 method. This means you connect pins 1 and 8 on your dead GPU using a paperclip, you bridge the pins so that they touch.

7. Turn on your PC. Post screen should appear. If not, check that paperclip is touching pins 1 and 8 (I gave it a nudge).
8. Once in Windows, open the cmd admin prompt for atiflash. Run atiflash -i and your dead card should appear, but state "fail".
9. Remove the paperclip, re-run atiflash -i, now you should see BIOS version (I liked to take this extra step).
10. Now reflash as you want using atiflash -f -p 0 xxx.rom.
11. Once finished, turn off your PC and repeat from step 5 for each card.
12. Do not forget to enter BIOS one last time to switch back the primary boot to your PCI Express card before you boot up using your resurrected cards.

Weird problem? (RX 470) help!

Hi, :|

I used my old GTX760 and new Sapphire RX 470 Mining Edition (BIOS MODED and patched driver) for about 1 month no problem.
Bought 2x RX VEGA 64 cards, but somehow 2. and 3. PCIE slot on Mobo was not working anymore.
I came up with conclusion that my old x79 Mobo is faulty.

So I bought new PC:
CPU: Threadripper 1950x
COOLER: Enermax 360mm
MOBO: MSI X399 GAMING PRO CARBON AC
RAM: G.Skill 32GB
SSD: 2x256GB ADATA SX900
PSU: RM1000i
OS: Fresh Windows 10

Now I'm running 2x RX VEGA 64 in first and second PCIE 16x slot no problem.
But when I try to add RX 470 as 3rd PCIE 4X-8x or 2nd PCIE 16x it is not detected (fans not spinning)
When I tested my old GTX 760 it is working good as 3rd GPU.

SO FAR TESTED COMBINATIONS:

Only VEGA 64
1) PCIE 16x VEGA 64 (good) 2) PCIE 16x VEGA 64 (good)

Added RX470
1) PCIE 16x VEGA 64 (good) 2) PCIE 16x VEGA 64 (not detected - fans not spinning) 3) PCIE 4x-8x RX 470 (not detected - fans not spinning)
1) PCIE 16x VEGA 64 (good) 2) PCIE 16x RX 470 (not detected - fans not spinning)

I think new Mobo this time should be OK because GTX 760 is working.
1) PCIE 16x VEGA 64 (good) 2) PCIE 16x VEGA 64 (good) 3) PCIE 4x-8x GTX 760 (good)

DDU drivers several times it does not help.
So I came up with conclusion that there is some kind of problem with RX 470.
Can it be RX 470 MODED BIOS error (Bricked) or is it somehow shorted? or maybe new Mobo CPU faulty again?

I will try USB booted force BIOS flash, can it help?
Whitch GPU (0 or 1) number should I choose if I use RX 470 as second card in second 16x slot?
Don't want flash wrong card...

So far I'm only having nothing but problems...
Too bad I didn't know that before, I regret that I ever get in to mining.... :'(

I undervolted and optimized everything but with 0,17 cents Kwh and current difficulty I will never get half of my money back.
Worst that I'm not able to use my new PC normally for work as planned and I have to live in that noise.
