Someone requested some of my Bios Mods, I have several that work fairly well. I uploaded all my Bios Mods for the RX 570 with this post.

Background: Claymore Miner (No Dual) and Crimson 17.5.1

Just in case, the original Bios is included in the zip folder, for each description the name of the Bios Mod is in the parenthesis)

I used the Ubermix 3.1 in this one (Gigabyte RX570 Samsung Bios MOD and Gigabyte RX570 Samsung Bios NoVoltMOD)
That got me ~28.5 MH/s @ 1100 Mhz / 2000 Mhz @ ~ 937 mV,

Word of warning the MOD file is with a voltage mod, you may have to increase the vcore to ensure stability
Vcore +54, Power Limit +45

Hope it helps!

Why is no one mining on GTX 1060 3GB? I'm getting 23 Mh/s from one oc'ed card

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if there is a caveat that I am not seeing in regards to GTX 1060 3GB cards.

Here in Australia they are cheaper than RX 570 (no 470 stock left), they use slightly less energy (tbc) and deliver roughly the same performance es the RX 570.

I bought one card today as a test and I oc'ed the memory to +1000Mhz. Card has been running at 23 Mh/s all afternoon, no rejected shares.

Proof that if you buy RIG just to mine ETH is not a good idea: https://www.ethnews.com/ethereum-community-vote-on-miner-rewards

Hello,

There are a lot of threads where people are saying that the moment to start mining is lost...But people are still begin mining! :( That' sad.

First of all you do not understand what means difficulty and what means return of investment.
I begin mining one year ago... And it was already to late for me to get in. Why? Because the amount of Ether produced in all this time by me is lower, than if with the same amount of money I invested in production, I would buy directly Ether's! Yes! And I started 1 year ago. Difficulty grew up very fast and amount produced every day become lower and lower! I don't tell you problems with heat in the summer and freezing Rig's ... So if I would buy Ethers at 10$ (at this price I can buy exactly amount of Ether I produced in one Year) one year ago I would sell now at 4 times profit! But there was moments when Ether fall down to 6-7$ (At this price I would buy much more Ethers than I produced in 1 year) which I would sell at 7-8 times profit! Or I would sell now just an amount to recover investment and wait for Ether to go to the moon!

Big Idea is that now is the same. Just make a calculation. With a computer with 5 rx480's you will produce about 0.27 per day, that's 8 Ether's/month (if your computer will work 100% of time). But this you will produce in first month, in next months amount will be lower and lower! In just couple of months amount of Ether produced can be 4 Ether's/month. For Example as evidence of that in November-December 2016 you would produce 150-200 % more than know.... You can check the difficulty graph for evidence... Also there is POS coming...which can happen this year! So you will never return your investment and will end up with less ether than you thought you will have.

If your investment is 1500$, for 1 Rig, you can produce approximately 35-36 Ether's in next 6 months and less than that in next 6 months ( if POS will not come ). Lets say 60-65 for first year (PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU WILL MAKE THIS IF YOUR COMPUTER WILL NEVER SHUTDOWN). You will pay electricity about 80-110 $/month depend of the prices... which is about 1000$ per Year. So your investment is 2500$ for POSSIBLY 60-65 Ether's! And don't dream that something will happen and you will have more :) That's the maximum, you could end up with less than that. If you divide 2500$ to 60 ETH = 41$/ETH.

So at the today prices you can buy directly the same amount of Ether and wait 1 Year for the price to go up! Or you can wait for the price to go down to 20-30$ and buy more Ether's and when the price is high enough for you to sell. And if you think you can sell the Rig after a year, maximum you will get for you Rig is 50 % of 1500$ and it will take time to sell.

Other problems are that if you have working Rig at home that means a lot of heat in the summer, noise and safety problem ( when you go in a vacation or somewhere for the weekend you need to ask somebody to be close to your house, in the event your Rig Freeze and you don't know if there is a fire or what is the problem..)

Conclusion make for yourself, i just posted something which is real world calculations...

Happy Ether's!

4th GPU - Extra Molex Power to motherboard or not? That is the question

$

I decided after some suggestions from the community and because i could get one cheap, to buy a 4th GPU (GTX 1060).

I have As rock BTC H81 R2.0. I am wondering what peoples thoughts are on installing the 4th GPU (it will draw 75 to 85 watts) without plugging the extra PCI-E lane molex power connectors into the motherboard? It will be a powered riser (USB with 4 pin molex onboard).

This has been debated before and is a hotly debated topic on the internet with some saying it is dangerous to do that and some saying it is dangerous to not do it. My instinct is that is that it will probably be ok since I already have 2 1070s and a 1060 which are limited on their power draw (i.e. my cards are not power hungry) as well as the fact that the risers are powered and the card has an extra PCI-E connector (as all cards usually used for mining do).

ASUS 250 Mining Expert Motherboard issues

I purchased the above to replace a Gigabyte z170-ud5 th which had fussy pcie slots thinking it would simplify things, how wrong I was. The board has some nice ideas but it feels like betaware bios software rushed out before being ready to compete with Biostar/Asrock

Issue 1 - memory slots cheap looking and very tight fitting
Issue 2 - Will only boot with one slot populated with 8GB Corsair 3200MHz, filling both slots and it won't even attempt to boot, thought it was dead, removing second stick of RAM resolves issue, worked fine in old mobo
Issue 3 - Turning Mining Bios off or setting RAM memory settings manually causes POST to repetidly to fail, only way to POST is to set optimize defaults which also re-enables mining mode
Issue 4 - refuses to recognise more than 1 GPU on usb 3 risers (VOO7s)
Issue 5 - Manual very basic, even online is poor, the embedded QR codes in manual reference wrong motherboard sub-manuals
Issue 6 - No onboard error codes displayed, you need old world speaker beep codes, took me a day without pluging pcie mobo tester to find out it didn't like my RAM

Good points

1- supports 19 slots
2- usefull pre-diagnostic display of pcie slots in bios splash screen when booting, wont tell you what error is if any though
3 - can support 3 psu coonections if they work?- I have evo 1300w and 650w which appear to be working (fan spinning, card lighting up)
4 - could be 15% faster with single card when used with this mobo as opposed to old z170 board, could be chance?

So beta AMD drivers and what feels like beta bios software on motherboard = not good combination.

May have to send it back which is a shame since I wanted so much to like it.

Random hashrate drops in claymore

I wonder if anyone else is having this issue but my hashrate drops back and forth on claymore miner v10.
My current setup is:
  • h81 pro btc
  • g1820 cpu
  • 8gb of ram
  • 3x rx470
  • 2x rx 580
  • ubs risers
  • windows 10
it just happened out of nowhere. my rig hashrate was about at an average of 108mh dual mining lbc.
The amd driver i dont remember was the first driver for the dag file issue. it has been working great until today. so i did a fresh re-install of windows and everything for mining. it seemed to work for like 20 mins then the issue i am having came back and now it is fluctuating from 5mh - 108mh then it stays at 1mh - 0mh. I also installed amd drivers for gaming and it did nothing and then install the mining drivers so then that is when i decided to do a fresh install of everything. can someone help? thanks

Linux Mint - Mining with more than 8GPU Nvidia

I am mining stable on Win10Pro64 but my new motherboard (Asus B250 19GPU) has limit 8 GPU Nvidia and I want install 12+ Nvidia on same Rig.

I know Linux has no known limit on Nvidia GPU on same motherboard so I am thinking on transition from Windows to Linux Mint.

I have no previous experience on Linux so better I start on Linux Mint. Is anyone using Linux Mint on mining rig? Any recommendations?

Sapphire RX 4xx and RX 5xx together in the same rig

Hi, I've a rig with these cards (together):

1 x Sapphire RX 470 4gb
1 x Sapphire RX 570 4gb
1 x Sapphire RX 480 8gb
1 x Sapphire RX 580 8gb

If I try to install the AMD Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition Beta for Blockchain released last August for DAG fix, RX 570 and RX 580 are correctly recognized and installed but RX 470 and RX 480 none. If I try to force the driver installation for RX 470 and 480 the system crashed during installation and the system restart.
Do you have any suggestions to resolve? Is there another good alternative driver to install that recognizes all the cards?

Thank you!

RX 580 Hashrate

Has anyone had a chance to test out the RX 580's yet, either 4GB or 8GB? If so, what hash-rate are you getting? I'm debating getting the 580's because where I live, they are cheaper than the Sapphire Nitro RX 480's.

Thanks

Overclocking Nvidia on Ubuntu

$

Hi all,

I'm trying to overclock all cards on my rig running under ubuntu but I have managed to overclock only one so far. I have a 10 GPU rig with GTX 1060 cards.

Here is what I have done so far:
1. Fresh Ubuntu install 16.04
2. Install Nvidia drivers like this:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
sudo apt-get update
ubuntu-drivers devices
sudo apt-get install nvidia-381

3. Install CUDA drivers by downloading .deb file from Nvidia (https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-downloads)

sudo dpkg -i cuda-repo-ubuntu1604_8.0.61-1_amd64.deb
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cuda

enable overclock with coolbits

sudo nvidia-xconfig -a --cool-bits=28 --allow-empty-initial-configuration

So far, everything is ok, I see that the xorg.conf has been updated properly but when I reboot, my xorg.conf goes back to a previous version without the overclocking.

I have seen some people experiencing the same issue, some solutions here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/731990/gpu-manager-overwrites-xorg-conf overwrites xorg.conf I tried this but ended up with a login loop and being obliged to purge all Nvidia drivers.

When I tried with only one GPU I could overclock the card without any issue but since I added other cards, it doesn't work anymore. The problem seems to come from xorg.conf where my configuration is systematically overwritten.

Any idea of how I could solve this?

Thanks!

I have replaced the pci-e riser and same problem occurred
When I run the rx480s on their own I have no errors in device manager but only one card is decteted in ethermine
I have no idea what to do please help ?!?

Quick guide to flash your RX470/RX480 cards

This is just a quick guide for how to flash you RX470/RX480 cards. I hope it helps.

Download these.
https://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2728/atiflash-2-74
https://github.com/caa82437/PolarisBiosEditor
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

If you want a custom rom (Higher hash, lower power), you can contact Heliox
For example: RX 480 8G Samsung: 32+Mh ETH, RX 470 4G Hynix: 31+Mh ETH

Use GPU-Z to see what kind of memory your card has

1, open atiflash, MUST RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR
2, click on save to save the original bios, save it as RX470ogBIOS.ROM or RX480ogBIOS.ROM (for convenience)
3, open polaris bios editor
4, click open at the top left and open the OG bios you just saved
5, edit the timings according to your cards memory
6, click save, save it as RX470modBIOS.ROM or RX480modBIOS.ROM
7, open atiflash again, MUST RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR
8, at the top select the card you want to flash
9, click load image at the bottom left
10, search for the modded bios you just saved and open it
11, click program
12...wait a minute to finish, when its done it'll say to restart...if you're done click yes, if you have more cards to flash click no and repeat steps 8-12 until you're done.

Also, when selecting cards to flash, it will only show 3 cards, so if you want to flash more than 3 cards, only have 3 cards connected to the motherboard at a time, flash the cards, restart, make sure it worked, shutdown, switch cards and repeat. And then make sure you have the right driver installed.

This is what works for me. I hope it works for you too.
