Ethereum Hashrate Drop for Radeon RX400/RX500 GPUs is Incoming

I'll just live this here !!!!!!!!
Do you remember how last year AMD Radeon R9 280X GPUs started dropping in terms of mining hashrate for Ethereum due to the growing DAG file size? Well, it seems that we are in for the same thing happening with the Radeon RX400/RX500 series of GPUs in the next couple of months. We are currently at DAG epoch #129, but in the next 30-35 or so DAG epochs we are going to be seeing gradual drop in hashrate resulting in up to about 30% decrease from the current hashrate on the Radeon RX400/RX500 series of GPUs. It seems that other more powerful GPUs such as R9 290(x)/390(x) as well as Nvidia Pascal GPUs will not be affected or the drop in performance will be much smaller to a level considered pretty much insignificant compared to what will happen with AMD’s Polaris GPUs.
You can easily check what will happen with your existing GPU mining hardware and if it will be affected in terms of performance and how much by adding the option -benchmark 130 to the Claymore ETH miner. Change the number 130 (the next Ethereum DAG epoch) to the DAG epoch you want to test with such as 140, 150, 160 and see how your hashrate will change or if it will change. The Ethash DAG changes every 30000 blocks which is roughly every 4-5 days and with Ethereum this is called a DAG epoch, so every few days we move to the next DAG epoch. As DAG epochs move further on they also grow in size and put more stress to the video cards that are being used for mining and as a result there is also some performance drop observed over time. The more powerful the GPUs is and the more video memory it has, the more likely it is to be bale to handle better long term mining Ethereum.

Is there interest for an updated WattTool?

So...for personal reasons I've been working with AMD's (terrible) API on interfacing with their cards. So far I've gotten down to using their C++ example to throw over into C# for GUI reasons. I've accomplished reading everything (crudely...) and setting fan speeds+target temp and I'm down to the last part of dev'ing the clock+voltage "set" button out. After this, it'll be a complete WattTool with the exception of VRM modifications (which I doubt I could do, even if I had the datasheet for every I2C out there) but at least it SHOULD support the 500 series.

What I'm wondering is if there's any users out there who would use this tool over WattMan? If so, I'll upload the executable (I'm going to obscure it, so it's up to you whether you want to use it or not) and possibly Github the source (I have no issues with people looking at my source; I do have an issue with people "stealing" it).

Why this? I hated WattMan since the first day it came out. It's slow, it's clunky and it doesn't let you save profiles. Utterly useless as an OC tool. WattTool was an excellent solution to this, but it has become obsolete with the 500 series cards, and the dev seems to be MIA...so...why not?

EDIT: Excuse the terrible object names in the screenshot of Visual Studio behind the tool...I was rushing it between my 9am-5pm duties. I swear I'll properly name each and every XAML field in the final build!

i installed win10 , with drivers everything work fine i start mining with them(hashrate = 22-23), but after modding the bios
just one of them give up to 30mh and the two other cards give only 22-23
i tried to fix the problem with many why , finished with reinstall the cards in different slot and now only one card detected even by the afterburner and in the device manager one card work fine and the other with yellow triangle said

Are all Nvidia cards the same regardless of company branding them?

Hello, brand new to this, so I apologize for the uber noob question. I am currently mining Ether on an EVGA Geforce GTX 1060. This is mostly for fun to get to know the world of CC, so I'm not expecting mind blowing success, I'm really just intrigued by the whole thing and am looking forward to learning about the in's and outs, not to become a bagillionare.

Here's the question. The EVGA Geforce GTX 1060 is either sold out everywhere or the price is quite inflated. Can I use a Geforce GTX 1060 from Gigabyte or Asus or any of the other brands in conjunction with my EVGA without a separate rig/motherboard?
Thanks!

Quick guide to flash your RX470/RX480 cards

This is just a quick guide for how to flash you RX470/RX480 cards. I hope it helps.

Download these.
https://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2728/atiflash-2-74
https://github.com/caa82437/PolarisBiosEditor
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/

If you want a custom rom (Higher hash, lower power), you can contact Heliox
For example: RX 480 8G Samsung: 32+Mh ETH, RX 470 4G Hynix: 31+Mh ETH

Use GPU-Z to see what kind of memory your card has

1, open atiflash, MUST RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR
2, click on save to save the original bios, save it as RX470ogBIOS.ROM or RX480ogBIOS.ROM (for convenience)
3, open polaris bios editor
4, click open at the top left and open the OG bios you just saved
5, edit the timings according to your cards memory
6, click save, save it as RX470modBIOS.ROM or RX480modBIOS.ROM
7, open atiflash again, MUST RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR
8, at the top select the card you want to flash
9, click load image at the bottom left
10, search for the modded bios you just saved and open it
11, click program
12...wait a minute to finish, when its done it'll say to restart...if you're done click yes, if you have more cards to flash click no and repeat steps 8-12 until you're done.

Also, when selecting cards to flash, it will only show 3 cards, so if you want to flash more than 3 cards, only have 3 cards connected to the motherboard at a time, flash the cards, restart, make sure it worked, shutdown, switch cards and repeat. And then make sure you have the right driver installed.

This is what works for me. I hope it works for you too.

Hello

I am a newbie in

The problem is that my rig won't power on. Fans only spin for one sec and then stops. I've also tried without GPUs, only with the vga cable plugged in the Mobo.

Mobo: Biostar TB85 BTC Pro
GPU: 6 x MSI GTX 1070 AERO 8GB OC
RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury Black HX316C10FB/4, 4GB DDR3, 1600MHz, CL10
CPU: Intel G1840
SSD: Samsung Evo 850 250GB

I did the self test and the PSU shows the green light. I also carefully installed the PSU and cables. Maybe the PSU, CPU or mobo is dead? I read a lot of negative reviews about this PSU.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Legacy & NGC cards on same system error 43

Hi all,
I'm trying to use an RX480 & a HD5770 on a windows 7 box. I want to mine eth on the rx480 and some other easier coin on the 5770. Each one on its own works fine but if I put them on together, (first installing the legacy one then the RX480) the HD5770 shows up as error 43. I've tried with multiple different driver version combination but nothing seems to work. If i try by first installing the rx480 and then the 5770, the rx480 stops working and shows error 43.
I've run out of ideas. Has anyone had the same issues?
Thanks.

Hi,

I would like to know if it's possible to min eth with 1070 and 380x on the same machine.
And if it's possible, how can i do this ?
I've tried some things i've seen on internet, but none of these works :(

Thanks for the help

Have researched for days. Need help on 1st rig.

As the title says, I've researched mining rigs for days. The parts needed, etc. Even guides that were written as late as June 5th, 2017 are still recommending the RX 480 GPU's. That's great and all, but THEY ARE GONE!. And if they're not gone, they are ridiculously priced. So these guides, even for motherboards, seem to be outdated. The parts just aren't there anymore. Last night I spent 5 hours looking for Hb81 boards. Biostar TB250-BTC, Z97 Extreme4, Biostar TB85, & MSI Z170A boards. I was able to find a few, but not many.

Here's the bottom line: I have around $8K to spend. (I'm serious about this venture) I want to know the pieces and parts that YOU would pick to get the most bang for your buck. If that means 1 rig, fine. 2 rigs, fine, 3, rigs fine.

2 other questions that have puzzled me. Why does every single guide I read say to use 120GB SSD HD? Are the "older" non-SSD drives not good enough, or is it simply that the SSD's are very cheap now?

Why is no one using the R295x2? From my understanding it gets Mh/s in the 55+ range. Eats a lot of power. I know. Thanks for any responses and advice. I did find this this mobo last night and got a little excited about it: ASUS Prime Z270-P < There are a lot of russian vids on youtube with people using this board.

6 gpu on windows 10 problem.

I currently have 6 Radeon Aorus rx 570 4gb cards. I am running these on a Biostar TB250 - BTC Mobo and on windows 10. My problem is that I can only ever get windows to see 3 of my 6 graphics drivers. I feel like have I have tried everything at this point. I have tried the modified driver hack with every combination possible. I've tried the 16.11.5 with 17.5.1 driver hack and every combination of such that I can download. All of these options I still have only 3 of my 6 cards shown.
In my mobo I've got all of my pci slots set to gen 1. My motherboard also has a "Mining mode" option. I've tried that both enable and disabled. Still no luck. I've seen some other posts talking about enabling Gen 4 encoding but I am unable to find any such option in my mobo bios. Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you tack on an address I'll gladly send ya some Eth if it works out.

A little explanation on Ethermine Payouts

$

Hey guys (first post here),

I'm very new to mining, seeking some advice from the Pros. I am a fairly technical person, should be able to grasp quickly. But I'm juggling between too many terms and have some confusion going on.

I've been mining on Ethermine.org pool using claymore.
I created an account using geth (Safe to call this a "wallet"? I'll call it "account" for now).
I setup a few workers mining to this same "account" with about 128MH/s.
I've set the payout limit to 1 ETH on Ethermine.org pool.
I've been getting all the payouts pretty accurately.

After reading around, it seems like I should not use the "account" to trade. Instead, send it to another "wallet" first (I see "Mist" as a good option?), then use that "wallet" to send it to exchange for trading. Correct me if I'm wrong here too.

So far so good. But there is a little confusion here.

To avoid confusion and make explaining easier, we shall assume:
  • "Account" Address : 0xACCOUNT
  • "Wallet" Address on Mist : 0xWALLET
  • "Payout Tx" Address on Ethermine.org : 0xTX
I'm trying to send my ETH from "account" payout to "wallet"
  1. Can I do this using claymore? I can't seem to find the option to do this.
  2. I installed Mist on my computer, added a new "wallet" and it started synchronizing about 2million blocks. Is this correct?
  3. Is it safe to add my "Account" to Mist? The warning "You are sharing your identity with Ethereum Wallet" is doesn't sound convincing
  4. How do I send my "Payouts" to this new "wallet"? Can I do this using Mist considering I have not added my "Account" to it? Do I use the "0xACCOUNT"? or do I use the "0xTx"?
  5. Is it possible to use a non-mining machine for the purpose of trading and just let the mining machine do what they are setup to do (mine)?

Giga Watt ICO for hosting Panda Miner for ETH

$

Considering doing the Giga Watt ICO https://cryptonomos.com They are sold out of Panda Miners but you can ship them one if you can find it in stock and also rent out tokens to other miners. The calculator on their site shows lowest rental rate for tokens returns 36% and if you use tokens to host your miner you lock in 3.3cents kwh. Seems like a no lose deal, difficulty or price drop and I'd still be profitable at 3.3c kwh, and if/when we go PoS then I can rent tokens to Bitcoin miners at min 36% return still generating income after PoS. Is this the best way to invest right now with the lack of available AMD cards or would building a GTX 1070 rig be better and if so why? Really like some feedback on this.
So far on Giga Watt they seem legit and established company. If you search CEO name on coindesk for articles well you can see for yourself coindesk.com/?s=dave+carlson
And I found a local radio station with the board of economic development in Washington state county Giga Watt is building in, it's only 6 minutes but the local government seems to be fully supporting Giga Watt expansion koho101.com/2017/03/port-of-douglas-county-approves-new-data-pods-at-pangborn-business-park/
And the part that really has me ready to invest is their instagram, a picture is worth a thousand words kind of thing https://www.instagram.com/gigawatt_mining/
So Giga Watt is legit. My power is .09cents kwh so I'm average or slightly below and obviously at current prices profit isn't a question. 1070 cards going for ~$400 and can get 30mhs after overclocking. Not sure what resale value will be, guess it depends on when ETH goes PoS and current market and how many other miners are dumping used cards on the market. I kind of like the 1070 better than the panda miner, but having hosted mining below my costs is appealing, and having tokens to rent out after PoS is even more appealing.
So which route would you go, ICO and a Panda Miner hosted when they become available, or build another rig but use GTX 1070 cards since AMD hard to find and over priced?

Issues after installing 5th graphics card

I've managed to run 4 graphic cards so far with this setup.

- Motherboard: Asus Prime Z270-p
- 4 x GTX 1060 3G (ultimately need to install 6)
- RAM: 8 GB
- Intel pentium 1151
- EVGA SuperNOVA 1050 GS, 80+ GOLD 1050W
- Cards are connected via powered risers

Relevant software
- Ubunutu 17.04
- Latest Nvidia binary driver 281

I know that installing 4+ cards is usually problematic in Linux. I've been following the instructions in https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1917749.0 and they helped me install 4th card. However, the instructions are extremely indeterministic and don't have a clear order. They usually involve:

- Turn on/off Bios "Above 4G decoding".
- Change PCIE link speed to Gen 1, 2 or 3.
- Change DMI Max Link Speed to Gen1, 2, or 3.
- Add one card at a time.

Once I install 5th card into motherboard and turn on computer, I get one of the following issues:

- Ubuntu boots fine but "nvidia-settings" only shows 4 cards
- BIOS splash appears but black screen afterwards.
- No output signal at all.
- No BIOS splash appears. I just get the error:

Error: unknown filesystem.
grub rescue>

Random questions I have:

- Does it matter which card has HDMI plugged? Should I rely on the integrated intel gpu instead?
- When people say "install one card at a time, then install drivers", aren't drivers already installed?
- There are 6 PCI-E slots: PCI-E x16 (x16 mode), PCI-E x16 (max x4 mode) and 4*PCI-E x1. Do they differ in anyway? Is there supposed to be an inherently primary slot?

I realize I'm completely lost and can't make sense of what I'm seeing. But that's why I'm here! I'd really appreciate any debugging tips.

Thank you

very low hashrate - Please help

Hello Guys,

I have 3 x rx480 and a rx 580, 8 gb versions. My hashrate reported by claymore and ethminer both is about 80 - 83 MH/s but when I check it in nanopool, I see the 6 hour average is 35 - 50 MH/s. I do not have any crazy overclocks and I do not see any rejected shares either. Please help, how can I resolve the issue.
