Has anyone tried adding a PPTP VPN to their ETHOS distribution? I installed network-manger and also setup multiple connections but am getting an error with managing the the VPN. I didnt know if anyone else had a solution to this or attempted it. Any pointers or write ups that I could experiment with would be appreciated.

Gforce GTX 970 strix problem, very low hasrate(tryed everything what i could find)

Hello everyone.
I recently build myself a rig with 3 GTX 970 strix 4GB OC (https://www.amazon.com/GeForce-Overclocked-256-bit-DisplayPort-Graphics/dp/B00NJ9BJ8G)
I am currently running Win7 64bit. The miners are working with both claymore and Genoil, the problem is i get a very low hashrate.
I the the 347 driver and the 361 driver, same result for both around 3-4 MH/s for each card.
I have tried every forum tread i could find on this topping, setting it to P0 state was impossible since i get N/A when i try to get the clock list (read its some nvidia bug will try to fix it later).

For the moment i am trying to figure out what the problem is.

Here are the .bat file codes i am trying to run.(My wallet address is is changed so no problem there )

For claymore:
(Miners i tryed are Claymore's Dual Ethereum+Decred_Siacoin_Lbry_Pascal AMD+NVIDIA GPU Miner v9.2 , and v9.6)
EthDcrMiner64.exe -epool eth-eu.dwarfpool.com:8008 -ewal My Wallet Address

Genoil: (OpenCPL)
ethminer.exe -G -F http://eth-eu.dwarfpool.com:80/My Wallet Address

I am welcome to any suggestion at the moment, i tried with MSI afterburner to get some more out of it but nothing.

Here are some screenshots of Nvidia Inspector for each card (i have no idear why they run in P2 state tryed to set it to P0 no luck till now)

Here is my Hashrate (ethminer-0.9.41-genoil-1.1.6-pre > Ethermine-Stratum-CUDA)

Cryptonight, Cryptonight Lite, Cryptonight Heavy and Cryptonight Ipbc

Download only from this link, it's the only official link

ATTENTION:
From V1.4.0 the miner uses a separate pools.txt file, where you define your pools, wallet, etc.
Config from older versions that includes pool related data, won't be used!

Supports:

- Cryptonight
- Cryptonight V7
- Cryptonight Lite
- Cryptonight Lite V7
- Cryptonight Heavy
- Cryptonight Ipbc

Supports Nicehash, Nicehash V7 & SSL/TLS encrypted connections

For best results use Blockchain compute drivers (Get it from here) or Radeon Adrenalin 17 or newer drivers.
ADL tested & working with Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition Beta for Blockchain Compute Driver Version 17.30.1029

What can this miner offer you beside usual mining functionalities:

DevFee:
- Low DevFee (0.85%) -> every ~2 hours 1 minute mining for the dev
- Non-agressive DevFee mining -> if miner can't connect to DevFee pool, no problem, switching back to user pool ASAP
- 3 locations for DevFee pool : europe, asia, usa

Performance:
- Only one parameter you have to play with : intensity (0 - 300)
- Leave intensity on 0, and miner will try to set a minimum start intensity automatically
- To get even better results, there is an option to use double threads

Extra:
- Watchdog that monitors your GPU threads, if they stop working, miner exists, and restart script takes over and well.. restarts mining Smiley
- Set the target temperature you want, and miner will set fan speed according to that

Tips:
- If you leave intensity on 0 it will play safe, so in many cases you can increase that value to get better results
- For better results set double_threads to true, and leave intensity on 0
- If you get an error that says it can't create scratchpad buffer, you have to lower intensity
- Largest intensity setting won't always give you the best hashrate. Experiment and find the best setting for your GPU.

How to set it up ?

The config file :

"cryptonight_type" : "NORMAL, NORMALV7, LITE, LITEV7, HEAVY OR IPBC"
"intensity" : A NUMBER BETWEEN 0-300,
"double_threads" : TRUE OR FALSE,
"target_temperature" : A NUMBER BETWEEN 0-99

Optional parameters :

"giveup_limit" : HOW MANY TIMES TO TRY CONNECTING TO A POOL BEFORE SWITCHING TO NEXT POOL
"timeout" : WHEN IS A CONNECTION TO POOL TREATED AS TIMED OUT , IN SECONDS
"retry_time" : HOW MUCH TO WAIT TILL RECONNECTING WHEN DISCONNECTED FROM POOL, IN SECONDS
"reboot_script" : FILENAME, TURN OFF BUILT IN WATCHDOG AND INSTEAD RUN A USER DEFINED .BAT FILE ON GPU FAILURE (included windows restart .bat)

Some examples for "cryptonight_type"

normal
electroneum, graft

normalv7
monero, stellite, graft (from block 65110)

lite
aeon

litev7
turtlecoin

heavy
sumokoin, haven

ipbc
ipbc

#SET GPU'S MANUALLY
#This example uses GPU devices with ID 0,1,3,4 and every GPU has it's own setting
"gpu_conf" :
[
{ "id" : 0, "intensity" : 0, "worksize" : 8, "threads" : 1},
{ "id" : 1, "intensity" : 20, "worksize" : 16, "threads" : 2},
{ "id" : 3, "intensity" : 30, "worksize" : 16, "threads" : 2},
{ "id" : 4, "intensity" : 0, "worksize" : 8, "threads" : 1},
]

So if you for ex. have 6 GPU's but want only to use 3, first run SRBPolaris-CN.exe --listdevices to list devices and their id's, that you can put in config file under gpu_conf part.

DON'T comment out or remove intensity and double_threads setting at the top of the config file, just leave it as-is, because when you use a per card setting, those settings will be ignored.

The pools file:

{
"pools" :
[
{"pool_use_tls" : false, "pool" : "pool1address", "wallet" : "pool2wallet", "password" : "x", "location" : "europe"},
{"pool_use_tls" : false, "pool" : "pool2address", "wallet" : "pool2wallet", "password" : "x", "location" : "europe"},
{"pool_use_tls" : false, "pool" : "pool3address", "wallet" : "pool3wallet", "password" : "x", "location" : "europe"},
]
}

After setting up the config.txt file, just run start.bat
If you want to create a separate config and pools for a different coin, use --config and --pools parameter.

Options:

- Press 's' when miner is running to see some basic stats
- Press 'h' when miner is running to see hashing speed

Parameters (go in .bat):

--config filename (use config file other than config.txt)
--pools filename (use pools file other than pools.txt)
--logfile filename (enable logging to file)
--listdevices (list available devices)
--adldisable (disable ADL)
--disablegpuwatchdog (disable gpu crash detection)

Info:
You have to change the wallet address in sample config.txt file, if you leave it, you will mine some XMR to me.

what to mine is the most profitable for now.

Crypto Gui Miner - Official Thread And Support for Altcoins

I see that there are a lot of questions and different answers on forums on the subject of mining cryptocurrencies. So now… which cryptocurrency should you be mining and how? For beginners and people with no knowledge of cryptocurrencies, the biggest issue are the very basics like adjusting the settings which can be complicated and hard to figure out. If you want to start mining, it must be way more complicated than just a few clicks! Or is it? So you don’t have to bother, lose time or God forbid adjust something wrongly, there is an interesting piece of software that helps you and does everything automatically for you. I’m writing this because I myself am using this software and can confirm that it is definitely the best solution for everyone who is new in the world of cryptocurrency mining.

The program is called Crypto Gui Miner and it you can download it from https://mega.nz/#!CGpT2Q5R!VWWSKq3fYlDnWVUVHw6_keOoAq7vi3lGpoGPc5eITKU

The main thing which makes this program so special and what sets it apart from the others is the simplicity and automatic set-up function. There is even a calculator on their website that will calculate which cryptocurrency is the most profitable to mine, depending on the graphics cards that you use.

When you run the program, it will automatically recognize the graphics cards that you are using and adjust the settings so that it mines the cryptocurrency that is the most profitable. You also have a nice and clear display of temperature and other useful data such as hashrates, estimated monthly earnings in US dollars or Bitcoin, monitoring for tracking results via mobile phone, etc.
All you have to do is insert your wallet address so you can dafely save the currency you are mining directly into your wallet (and it is saved automatically). The best place for creating your wallet is the official website of the cryptocurrency that you wish to start mining. Of course, you always have control over what and when you will be mining.

You can also enter more than one wallet into the program, so the program will mine the currency that is the most profitable at that time. However, if you only wish to mine one cryptocurrency, then just click on the button “Force” and the chosen cryptocurrency will be mined regardless of the others.

In short, don’t focus on mining Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum or other currencies that are difficult to mine and you need hardware of 100+ thousands of EUR. Focus on currencies that can quickly be mined and monetized, converted into cash or for buying other cryptocurrrencies or if you plan to invest them in the long run. Just download the program, choose one or more currencies for mining, insert your wallet and that is it. No complicated settings, losing time, uncertainties etc.

I have a Linux based rig with 7 RX570’s running smooth without any mods. I’ve tried to boot up with an 8th card connected but the rig crashes right after claymore sets the dag epoch for the cards. Does anyone have a similar rig up and running without issue? Any idea on what I could try to remedy this?

I just didn't expected that promo code! such a surprise! Damn! It is cool!
I would also recommend to check out the decent cloud mining journal http://cryyyptomining.com best articles about that!
for instance something i understand from that journal is the matter of the process of cloud mining operation

Cloud mining is a complex service that sells the powerful device, ensured by enterprises that own mighty data centers. It’s kind of investment of money for mining of crypto money with help of powerful blocks forming blockchain.
These days there are three most widely used cloud mining methods:
* Hosting – platform where owner provides equipment to rent for cryptocurrency miners.
* Virtual hosting – renting of area on the server with following installation of tenant’s software for cryptocoins mining.
* Lease computing capacity of the server without opportunity to regulate its operation.

check that journal on that and other topics.

It is not secret anymore that Bitmain installs remote kill switches on ASICs.

"Antbleed is a backdoor introduced by Bitmain into the firmware of their bitcoin mining hardware Antminer"
https://www.antbleed.com/

Maybe it is for emergency to destroy all ASIC miners they have sold to perform 51% attack easy. Evil as hell >:)
Please, give me some better reason, why they still want to take control (disable) the ASICs they have sold?
"The remote service can then return "false" which will stop the miner from mining."

It is like some criminal is pointing gun at your head and in case can easy pull the trigger whenever he wants...

Bitmain installs remote KILL-SWITCHES on the ASIC miners.

Electricity Check-Point - Correct me if I'm wrong

UK Question:

What's safe long-term to draw from a double socket?

Context, drawing 2250w, 235v & 9.8amps.

The watt-meter has a "Energy Overload" option that states 3120w, I'm assuming this is the max draw from the socket and I'm running around 60-65%.

The socket is warm to touch but not hot, can safely hold your hand against it without any bother forever.
