issues with ethminer and X server on ubuntu

im starting my miner and im getting this error.

any help would be great. this is a fresh install if i run sudo aticonfig --lsa it can see the amd 290 and if i run ethminer/ethminer --list-devices -G it can see a open GPU too. it seems to be an issue with Xserver or fglrx which im not familiar with.
