I installed four MSI RX580 Gaming X+ 8GB into one of my workers today. I thought I'd share my ups and downs.
- Initially, I was not able to get all six cards to recognize drivers properly. I had a few Rx480 Red Devils that are too weak to use a custom ROM (stock only), so I though those might at least work. No go. I ended up following this YouTube videos. Kudos to the producer:
Even with this video, I was able to get all six cards to show up properly in drivers, but would still have crashing problems. Before I sorted that out, I moved on to moding the ROM. I followed the following video as much as I could. Being that I have a different card, I could only follow the best I could and hope for the best:
Luckily, I ended up getting a SOLID 28 MH/s out of my RX 580s, but my two 480 Devils would crash immediately (0 MH/s for a few seconds then crash).
On a hunch, I tried putting in one of my R9 290x cards in to see if it would work. I expected the single Devil to crash, but miraculously this combination of cards worked just fine. The 290x is humming along at 31 Mh/s, the 4 580s are at 28Mh/s. The sad little Devil is only at 24.5 Mh/s but is one of my weaker cards (we all have a few of those).
I might play around with the custom 580 Rom settings at some point. I think 30-31 MH/s isn't out of the question, but I'm not an expert at tweaking these custom roms so I'm hesitant. I may just be happy with what I have.
At least, I wanted to share the videos I found helpful.
Also, if anyone is interested in getting involved with creating better roms for these MSI 580 Gaming X cards, just let me know.
