The elusive Pandaminer - what is so hard about it to build?

I mine down south, it would alleviate my problems 100%. There's a friend who I hold in high regard who built an empire, who told me to leave it alone, that it would be too much of a timesink. I've wired things in series before, but I'm trying to figure out why everyone just ignores it and refuses to build it themselves. So, he's taking an ATX board and PCI-E splitters? and putting 8 470s or 480s on the board, right.
