GPU Mining

I was doing some searching and couldnt really find what I was looking for and I know someone probably does here. My question is; what kind of coin can you mine with a GPU rig? Is it pretty much any currency out there? I know its obviously impossible with BTC but im thinking about buying a rig and I want to make sure if anything goes south with ethereum I have someone else to mine
