I'm a relatively new miner (around 2 month), currently mining ETH with a gtx 970 and with an rx480 8GB.
It's funny how 3 months ago I didn't even know what ETH or MH/S meant, only heard about bitcoin vaguely, but now I started staying up late at night and read about altcoins, watching youtube videos about cryptocurrency and how to flash your GPU. And don't get me wrong, I don't see mining as a business or a way to get rich it's not really about the money, it's way more like a hobby that earns you a small revenue on a side.
I get excited only when I think of getting my own 6 GPU rig one day. I can already smell the scent of those GPU's coming out of the box after such a long time sitting on the shelves (you must think I'm crazy by now).
Anyway enough fairytales, I'll get to the point. I already bought an MSI rx480 8GB last week in a moment of pure childish madness thinking that it's a good GPU also on a long term perspective. Found it cheap, at about 220$ in the amazon warehouse deals, new, just with packaging issues. My question is about the GPU's I should buy.
Looking ahead, I'm planning to get a 4 GPU mining rig for now and then move on to add another 2 in the further future. Here come's the question. (for real now)
Do you think the rx480's are a good investment right now, thinking long term investment or should I switch to another type of card from Nvidia or maybe get the cheaper AMD rx470's perhaps and wait until the new AMD Gpu's come out so the price for the rx 480 lowers or maybe the new generation is way better. What do you think? The rx480 seem to be good, 8GB plenty of VRAM, cool temps especially on the MSI I recently bought.
I'm sure that you may heard similar stories to mine, but I really hope at least some enthusiast miners could reply and give me some advice and share their take on the matter. I also think that the subject is really interesting for lots of people that just started mining like me.
I would really appreciate all your opinions!
Andrei
