290x still viable?

Hey all,
I have a friend willing to sell me his powercolor reference 290x 4gb for $120 usd.
How is this card hashing compared to other cards, see the same slowdown witht the 280x?
worthwhile? i know this guy gets hot, but its in the garage which will be cold all winter.
