Zcash Worth the Effort?

I'm a mine and hold type. I'm interested in Zcash for philosophical and technical reasons, however it seems like a pump and dump...get in as early as possible and get out as early as possible. ...E.g., we're barely a week in and people are already saying too late.

In your opinion, is Zcash a viable investment going forward, or simply a hype coin that'll die a slow death over the coming months?
